Environmental Statement

In 2005 Silver Sands holiday Park gained the coveted David Bellamy God Award; granted in recognition of the park's commitment to the preservation of the natural environment here in Cornwall.

We encourage the wildlife such as bats, badgers etc by low-level solar lighting round the park and allowing hedges to go undisturbed during the nesting season. Also many of our plants are specifically friendly to moths, butterflies and other insects.

As an organisation we look to protect the environment as far as is reasonably practicable. We provided recycling facilities for glass, metal, card, paper and plastic (including milk bottle tops). We also ask our guest to use non-biological chemicals including toilet fluid in their caravans and camper vans (i.e. Aqua Green).

We look to operate to Green standards without compromising the standard for our guests

We look to be responsible users of our environments and resources for many reasons.

To comply with legislation. Without doing this we could not continue to exist.

Ensure a pleasant environment for our guests.

Maintain the local environment that make the Lizard area so special

Lower outgoings.

Members of staff have qualifications in Sustainable Tourism and all are encouraged to obtain them.

Some to the activities in which we indulge to do this include:

Solar lights to enable guests to see the night sky and long life lamps (despite the disposal problems!)

Recycling not only the items stated above but also old pillows for a local lady to stuff knitted toys, bedding to homeless charities, clothing to charity shops,

Support for local charities - Shelterbox, local church - sponsored seat cushion, school,

Support local businesses by purchasing through them as far as possible; the baskets are made up by a local nursery, food purchased locally and these shop are recommended to our guests, local restaurants again we recommend the best to our guests. Notices and signs from a local company.

We use local staff.

We are always willing to look at other ways to be environmentally friendly and investigate environmental audits and well as performing our own audit.
