2007/8 News Letter
We hope that this annual newsletter helps you to plan the coming season and helps keep you up to date on what's going on at West Cornwall's premier fishery.

2007 has been a good year for the fishery we have achieved a lot more than I expected, just to mention a few notable moments during the last year.

We came into the new year in the middle of the winter pairs league, good fishing but terrible weather, but winter matches were being won with weight's over 80lbs on Billy's and 45lbs weight's coming of Bill's not bad for winter! We then came into the spring league, again good weights offish were caught and anglers enjoyed themselves.

April was a good month for several reasons. We had our own special weekend sponsored by Preston Innovations, with their own sponsored anglers coaching our local juniors, with the likes of ex world champion Tommy Pickering, England international Will Raison, and England under 16's manager Steve Saunders just to mention a few. The response from the local juniors was great they learnt loads and enjoyed every moment.

The next day saw interested local anglers watching 17 of England's top match anglers do battle on Billy's, in B.K. fisheries own Champion of Champion's match, this attracted top anglers from all over England, among the star studded line up were Steve Saunders, Alex Bones, Harry Billing, Darren Cox, Will Raison, and Ritchie Hull.

The outcome was a win for Will Raison, a new match record of 115lbs for Billy's pool and thumbs up from Preston Innovations. The feast of angling talent on the banks of Billy's pool was a joy, for me personally it was pleasing for me to give local anglers the opportunity to see these anglers in action for themselves, I'm sure that they picked up lots of useful tip's and information from the 'stars'.

April also saw the start of the Saturday Junior Summer league, for me this was the reward for so much hard work, to see so many young anglers on the bank catching fish or us coaching them was a joy. We had all sorts of young anglers turn up, some with tackle - some without, but they were all accommodated and enjoyed themselves, with parents helping, encouraging and even threatening them at times. It was good fun and bodes well for the future of local anglers and angling in general. The juniors achieved weight's in excess of 48lbs on Billy's and 35lb weights on Bill's, in just over 3hr competitions, not bad, I wish I could!!

The Sunday Summer league again saw weights in excess of 80lbs on Billy's and weights in excess of 45lbs on Bill's. The Thursday evening league again saw weights in excess of 80Jbs on Billy's and 60lbs on Bill's, not bad for 3-4hr matches. All the matches were well supported, but we would like to see more of you all, the competition side of the fishery offers you all an opportunity to not only pit your skills against the fish but also against fellow anglers, allows you to make friends with like minded people, and all for the cost of a permit.

STOP PRESS
Preston Innovations have again agreed to sponsor B.K. Fishery's matches in 2008, which is great news. 2007 saw Preston Innovations donate valuable prizes and tackle for juniors, seniors and beginners.

2007 wasn't just about matches, it was very pleasing for us at the fishery to witness countless pleasure anglers that achieved personal best's in size offish, species, and amount, every day saw pleasure anglers achieve catches offish that were not available in the bad old days, we have had many surprises as follows, Bill's pool - Common carp to 23lbs 4oz, Mirror carp to 17lbs I0oz, Crucian carp to 2lbs 2oz, Bream to I0lbs 6oz, Roach to 1lbs 12oz, Rudd to 1lbs 10oz, Tench to over 6lbs, Perch to over 2lbs 8oz. Billy's pool - all types of Carp up to 7-8lbs with the odd double, Bream up to 5-6lbs, Roach up to 1lb 8oz, Rudd to 1lbs 8oz, and Perch up to 1lb 8oz, the carp have only been in there for two years and already we are catching little carp and little skimmers, their parents are packing on weight at such a rate that we are beginning to supply bigger landing nets!

We at the fishery like to think that all of our hard work over the last 3 years is now offering-the local angler a better choice of fishing, more quality, a fishery that is safe, clean, with facilities that to-days anglers expect.

2008 will see even more improvements to the fishery, we have already installed a purpose made tackle and bait shop, stocking new and good second hand tackle, with quality brands such as Preston, Mayer, Browning, Waterline, Garbolino, Drennan, and Dynamite baits, etc. Further improvements are planned over the coming year, such as improved access and platforms for disabled anglers, new fish stocks for both Billy's and Bills pools. New this year will also be a limited number of local memberships, offered and tailored to suit your needs and affordability. We have also included this yearly newsletter to let you anglers know more about what's going on at your local premier fishery. We will continue to be forward thinking and look forward to your patronage over the coming year.
